I’m Melissa Smalls, founder and owner of New You Nutrition, and I’m ready to help you unlock your body’s full potential through the use of healthy foods and healthy eating habits.

As a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) with more than 20 years of experience to my name (with 15 of those years spent at New You Nutrition), I’m here to help you sort through the facts and fictions of all things nutrition. I’ve worked with thousands of individuals to help them discover the joys and benefits that food can offer the mind, body, and soul. Our initial session begins with a 60-minute overview of your current nutritional habit and your goals. Follow-up sessions revolve around targeted strategies to help you reach specified goals.

In our first session we’ll get to know one another. We’ll discuss your overall relationship with food, your past and present eating habits, and how you view your body. From there, we’ll formulate a goal-oriented plan with action steps to tackle the specific areas to focus on.

$75 30-minute follow-up sessions

Our follow ups will revolve around targeted strategies for implementing your goals. The number of follow up sessions are dependent on the extent of your goals as well as your motivation. Follow up sessions can be purchased individually or in packages.

Rejuvenate in Eight (Weeks)

30-minute bi-weekly sessions

This 8-week coaching program is designed to reduce stress, ease inflammation, and help you gain more energy. It includes bi-weekly 30-minute online sessions as well as support documents, recipes, and helpful tips and advice.

Week 1 begins with a 90-minute online session where we discuss your full health history and conduct a food log analysis to determine a customized nutrition plan.

Weeks 2 through 8 consist of bi-weekly 30-minute online sessions to discuss daily food goals, an exercise plan, and recommendations for meals. This program pays particular attention to inflammation-reducing natural foods, so be ready to eat your weight in greens!

Hello there, I’m Melissa Smalls!

I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and I founded Minneapolis, Minn.-based New You Nutrition back in 2005. I’ve been in the business of helping people of all ages get healthy for more than 20 years.


As a dietitian nutritionist—or, more specifically, your dietitian nutritionist—my top priorities are to:

Educate: Offer guidance and education about proper nutrition and eating habits.

Formulate: Create a detailed, goal-oriented plan—tailored to you—to help you tackle your nutritional goals.

Assist: Coach and help guide you along your journey & experience the benefits of a healthy body, mind, and soul.

A few more fun facts about me

  • I studied at the University of Washington in Seattle and earned a Master of Science in Nutrition Sciences while completing the ASCEND-accredited Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) program.
  • During my studies I completed more than 1,200 hours of practice rotations in clinical and community settings as well as food service settings.
  • I’m an active member of numerous organizations and associations such as the American Nutrition Association, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the American Council of Science and Health.
  • I’m a certified personal trainer and was in the biz of fitness training for 10 years.
  • I love to fish. From hot and humid summertime fishing (and swatting at mosquitoes!) to teeth-rattling winter ice fishing—I’m a total die-hard fan. Record: I caught a 50-inch muskellunge (musky) on Lake Vermilion in northern Minnesota. Ya, you-betcha I was excited!
  • For all of you Twinkie-loving people in the world (myself included), I’m a firm believer that there’s no such thing as bad food, only bad portions.
